Burning a PS3 game to an ordinary DVD – Is this possible?

A question that is often asked by gaming fans is whether it’s possible to burn PS3 games.  I wouldn’t go as far to say that it’s not difficult; because there are certain ways that can be used to do it if you following the instructions correctly and use the relevant copying software for the job.  Most gamers tend to store their computer games on DVDs which is not the best media for storage. They can be easily damaged, lost or copied over. It’s much safer to burn your PS3 games if you want to make sure they’ll be there for you to use whenever necessary.

You might not be aware that PS3 games discs are very fragile and should therefore be looked after with much care for long term enjoyment. With a video or movie CD, a small scratch or blip might not make a big difference whereas on a PS3 games disc it can mean all the difference being able to play the games and throwing it on the garbage heap. These gaming discs come packed with a lot of features that are critical to its performance and the slightest damage will make them completely unplayable.

The best solution to this problem is to burn the original PS3 games disc by using reliable copying software that can be   downloaded from the internet.  You will also need good quality blank DVD’s for the copying process and a computer that has disc burning properties. But not just any computer as you will see why.    Make sure you read the copying software to ensure you get it right. This is not difficult and all you have to do is to insert the discs and start following the automated instructions that are displayed on the screen. It might however take some time for the burning process to take place, so have patience.

By now you must be wondering if it’s that easy why people are not doing it more often. Well, here’s the problem. Most PS3 games have been burnt on Blu-Ray discs making it impossible to copy them to ordinary DVDs. Although a Blu-ray disc is capable of storing more data than an ordinary DVD, they don’t have the speed of installation that the latter has. There is in fact a lot of controversy about the Blu-ray disc being used as the storage media for PS3 games. But that’s another story in itself.  So how does one get round the problem of copying the games to another disc?

Another issue is that these discs are usually writer protected which makes it impossible to copy them. Sony has made them that way to make it as difficult as possible for software pirates to copy their PS3 games and sell them at much reduced prices. So let’s hope the only reason you want to burn a PS3 game to a disc is to keep the original safe from being damaged.  It’s for this purpose that you have to download special software that will allow you to copy the game to a new disc and also be in possession of a blu-ray disc burner.  If you can get all these right, it’ll be worth it to keep your precious and expensive PS3 games from being damaged in the long term.
