Idris Elba in talks for Star Trek 3 villain

He’s currently being tipped as the next Bond, well after Daniel Craig steps down that is, so he’s clearly proven he’s a man in demand. Now Idris Elba is reportedly in talks to star as the next villain in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek sequel which is yet to receive a name.

The third outing of the U.S.S. Enterprise and its crew, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, is scheduled to go into production later this year with Elba rumoured to be starring as it’s main villain, although exact details on the character are still being kept secret.

It’s probably no surprise that creator Abrams has opted for another British actor, considering how popular Benedict Cumberbatch was as evil warloard Khan in 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness. Though for the third instalment there looks set to be some behind the scenes changes with original visionary J.J. Abrams stepping down, most likely due to his committments to the new Star Wars trilogy, and Fast & Furious supremo Justin Lin taking the helm. Another interesting addition is to the writing team, with cast member Simon Pegg co-writing the script – so expect a lot more humour and awesome action scenes.

With original cast members Karl Urban, John Cho and Anton Yelchin also attached to reprise their roles, Star Trek 3 looks set to be even better than its predecessors. Catch Star Trek 3 beaming in to cinemas wirldwide from July 8, 2016.
